neverbestFaith grew up without the fundemental pillars of support necessary for a stable life, on top of that already shakey foundation she was bestowed with the destiny of being a slayer
faith begins to find belonging with buffy and co but that changes when she kills someone by accident
faith runs from the consequences of her reckless behavior, aligning herself with the mayor, where she ends up finding the parental figure and belonging shes been lacking, also puts her at odds with the 'good' side.

highly reckless
very defensive
every time shes given some level of stability or supportive system to trust in shes abandoned in some way whether by death betrayal (or the feeling of betrayal)
recklessness eventually leads her to accidently killing a civilian on the job, but because of her lack of trust and relying on others she doesn't accept help or guidance dealing with what happened in a productive manner, runs from problem and guilt by brushing it off, justifying, or betraying before she can be betrayed (lying and throwing buffy under the bus for the murder initially, although buffys friends do not believe faith)
this all causes faith to spiral
although friends want to help, and she is nearly convinced to do right by someone who harbors guilt for similar crimes, this is intervened with by her watcher, wesley, obliterating any remaining trust and cementing that she will not take the road of good and further isolate herself from her former friends
conflicted but feeling like she has no other choice faith aligns herself with the Big Bad of the moment, the mayor of sunnydale.
Quick witted and sharp tongued, likes to provoke others
Huge authority issues!!
In a twist, she finally finds real support with the Mayor, coming to see hime as a father figure as she works for him, first as a double agent pasing info on from Buffy and Cos actions. With the mayor she doesn't feel undermind or that she is constantly being compared, despite working for the objective evil this keeps her loyal to him because its a feeling of support and belonging that shes craved her whole life, and letting the world burn seems worth it.
massively insecure and jealous of Buffys haves vs her have nots. feels inferior and compensates for that, lashes out.
faith masks her insecurities with her reckless confidence, be it real or fake. Subsiquently ends up out of her depth or isolating herself when the fecade is challenged.
very individualist dog eat dog type of attitude
there's no one in this world who hates faith more then herself, and she will do everything within her power to run from facing that
